Shadrach (1998) This story takes place in the South United States during the great depression. Paul Whitehurst (Scott Terra) is the only child of respectable, middle class parents. His best pal is 'Little Mole' Dabney (Daniel Treat), who is one of 7 children living with their impoverished parents in a ramshackle home. One day while Paul and Little Mole are playing marbles, a mysterious old black man named Shadrach appears. It turns out that Shadrach is a 99-year-old former slave of the old Dabney tobacco plantation, and has walked all the way from Alabama to be buried on Dabney ground in Virginia. This sweet tale and the relationships that develop between the characters, especially between Shadrach and the boys, demonstrates endless kindness and the shared need for human dignity.
