Andre

Andre (1994) is based on a true story about a marine seal who comes to live with the Whitney family in a small Maine fishing village in the 1960s.  Young Thalice (Chelsea Field) takes care of the playful orphaned seal.  When her 16-year-old brother Steve (Shane Meier) discovers that Andre can shoot a basketball through a hoop, Thalice and family help make Andre a beloved town novelty.  This is a wonderful feel-good family movie that's sure to please everyone, and even bring a tear or two to your eyes.  Co-stars Gregory Smith in a minor role, and Joshua Jackson.  (DVD VidCaps from this movie are in our Shane Meier Galleries and Gregory Smith Galleries).

Needful Things

Needful Things (1993) When Leland Gaunt (Max von Sydow) comes to the sleepy town of Castle Rock and opens his "Needful Things" shop, his first visitor is 11-year-old Brian Rusk (Shane Meier).  In exchange for giving Brian the thing he wishes for most, a Mickey Mantle baseball card, Brian must in turn perform a few little tasks for the sinister Mr. Gaunt.  These tasks include throwing mud and turkey-poop on a townsfolk's freshly-cleaned hanging laundry, and throwing apples through all their windows.  Other townsfolk are similarly given the objects of their desire in return for performing nefarious tasks.  Young Brian is the first to realize that these little chores performed for Leland Gaunt have caused the townspeople to become vicious toward one another.  When Brian sees that his little bit of vandalism has led to a double-murder, the lad tries to tell the local sheriff (Ed Harris).  Unable to tell the sheriff nor cope with his realization that he caused people to die, Brian decides that the only thing to do is take a gun to his head . . . (DVD VidCaps from this movie are in our Shane Meier Galleries).
