The Cell

The Cell (2000) is a thriller of a movie, filled with brilliant visual effects with some of the most dazzling and twisted dream sequences ever shown on film.  Jennifer Lopez stars as Catherine Deane, a psychotherapist and social worker who uses a new technology to enter the dreams of comatose patients.  Her patient when the movie starts is a boy named Edward Baines (Colton James).  But when serial-murderer Carl Stargher goes comatose during his arrest, the police are unable to question him as to the whereabouts of his latest victim - who is currently alive but in Stargher's torture chamber, aka "the cell".  The only way to find the soon-to-be-dead victim is to enter the killer's mind.  When Catherine dives into the dark world of Stargher's thoughts she not only encounters terribly bizarre horrors, but also finds Carl as a timid and abused boy, brilliantly portrayed by Jake Thomas.  Given her love for children, Catherine's personal mission is not only to get Stargher to reveal where his victim is hidden, but she also embarks on a journey to bring peace to young Carl.  (DVD Video Captures from this movie are in our Colton James Galleries and Jake Thomas Galleries)
