Billy Elliot (2000) Jamie Bell stars as Billy Elliot in
this joyful, triumphant and sometimes funny movie about a boy
discovering himself and coming of age. Billy is an 11-year-old boy
who trades his boxing lessons for ballet. Unfortunately his father,
a tough coal miner embroiled in the 1984 miners strike in England, finds
dancing to be less than masculine. Billy continues his ballet
lessons without his dad's permission and his passion grows. Co-stars Stuart Wells
as Billy's best mate Michael, and
Matthew Thomas as Simon, a

Nicholas, his sister and mother venture to London to seek help from their Uncle Ralph, but Ralph's only intentions are to separate the family and exploit them. Nicholas is sent to a school run by the cruel, abusive and horridly entertaining Wackford Squeers. Eventually, Nicholas runs away with schoolmate Smike, and the two set off to reunite the Nickleby family. |
