Ryan Allen Sheckler Date of Birth, Location: December 30, 1989, San Clemente, California Ryan Sheckler is one of the youngest top-ranked skateboarders in the world. He started skateboarding when he was around 5 years old and started competing at 7. Before he became a teenager he had competed in over 70 nationally recognized contests and had won more than 50 skateboarding trophies, including 1st Place at the California Amateur Skateboard League (CASL) in his age group. He had also placed 2nd overall at the CASL State Championship and the U.S. Open of Skateboarding, and 2nd place in the Gravity Games Amateur Challenge. His superb skating talent at such a young age prompted TV's "20/20" to feature a story about him, and he was a guest on "To Tell the Truth". In 2003, Ryan won his first major PRO competition, 1st in street at the 10th Annual Vans Slam City Jam Tournament, held in Vancouver on May 1-4. Ryan then went on to place 1st in the second stop of the Vans Triple Crown, the Mountain Dew National Championships, held May 29-June 1, in New Jersey. But the coup-de-grace was winning the coveted #1 spot in the 2003 X Games on the street course. Ryan appeared in his first movie when he took heed to a casting call that required a 12-14-year-old accomplished skateboarder who looks 10-12. That movie was "MVP 2: Most Vertical Primate," released to video in 2001. Although the lead role of Ben Johnson went to another accomplished young skater (Scott Goodman), Ryan earned not one but TWO roles in the movie, making his big-screen acting debut. As a principal actor in his primary role, Ryan played Neil Nellis, a skateboarding champion and one of Ben's chief competitors. And his second role was as stunt double for the skateboarding chimpanzee! In addition to his Hollywood productions, Ryan is also featured in numerous skateboarding videos, including "Tony Hawk's Secret Skatepark Tour," and his voice is even heard on some skateboarding video games.
