Jonathan Gregory Brandis Date of Birth, Location: April 13, 1976, Danbury, Connecticut. Date of Death, Location: November 12, 2003, Los Angeles, California. Jonathan Brandis started modeling when he was just a toddler, and by the time he was 9 years old he had been in over 80 TV commercials. TV guest-spots soon followed. Jonathan's big break came when he was 14 years old and landed the starring role as Bastian in "The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter" (1990). Other great roles for the young actor were quick to follow, as well as great publicity and exposure in the teen fan magazines. His other memorable roles include 12-year-old 'Stuttering Bill' in Stephen King's "It" (1990), cross-dressing soccer star Matthew/Martha in "Ladybugs" (1992), and aspiring martial-artist Barry Gabrewski in "Sidekicks" (1992). He was also popular for his role in the TV movie and series "SeaQuest DSV" (1993-96) as whiz-kid Lucas Wolenczak. In all, Brandis appeared in 27 movies. In November, 2003, the news first broke in the Cleveland Plain Dealer (where Jon had made "The Year That Trembled," one of his final films) that the young actor, Jonathan Brandis, had died. That news was posted to various places in the Internet, and fans worldwide - shocked, saddened, and perhaps in denial - searched for additional articles. During that time 'Jonathan Brandis' was the #1 search term on numerous search engines. News was slow in coming, but soon multiple sources reported that Jonathan had indeed passed away. A friend had found Brandis in his apartment just before midnight on November 11, and called 911 to report that Brandis had attempted suicide by hanging. He died in the hospital the next day. Jon is survived by his parents, Greg and Mary. He was their only son. Jonathan Brandis was a fine young actor, loved by many. His adoring fans, and all fans of young talent, are hurt and saddened by Jon's tragic passing. He will be sorely missed.
